File Areas and Files

File Areas allow you to add files to your site and define the appearance of your file links. To add a File Area click Add Content on top left and choose File Area. Green rectangles will mark all locations where a File Area may be added. Select a location and the Add File Area popup will be displayed.

 

 

The Header and the Footer of a file area are the text displayed above and below the file area. In View dropdown you may select the inforrmation to be displayed for each file - the file icon, description, size, date and comment. You may also choose to display the files in columns, rather than one below the other. An option for large file icons is also available.

 

Below is an example of file view: [icon] [description] [size]

 

 

 

Files

To add Files to a File Area roll over the File Area and click the  displayed on top right. Green rectangles will mark all locations where a file may be added. Choose a location and the Add File popup will be displayed.

 

 

 

In the Source field browse for a file stored on your local disk. Depending on your file format, you may choose an Icon to be displayed for this file. The text entered as file Description and Comments will only be displayed if the File Area View includes description and comments.

 

The file Access Control section displays the options for Permanent URL, and protection of the file by password, mailing list or both.

 

 

The Permanent File URL is a file URL generated after the file has been added. This is a URL that will not change (unlike the standard file URLs visible when you click a file in a File Area). Therefore, this Permanent File URL should be used to link to this file from other website pages and sites. The Permanent File URL becomes active once you publish the page where the file is uploaded.

To get the Permanent URL of some file, first add the file and then open it by clicking the blue  icon on its top left.

 

Confidential files may be protected with a password. You may also restrict the access to them to members of a mailing list added on your site. Members will be asked to authenticate with the email address used to subscribe to the required mailing list. If password-protection is enabled, they should also provide the correct password, in addition to their email address.
